Survivors of 7.8-magnitude Quake Need Help From Christians in America
The first two Emergency Health Kits are being used in Manabí – the province most affected by the two earthquakes. Of the confirmed 480 deaths, 86% (or 414) of these were in Manabí. A total of 112 health facilities in Manabí are non-operating or with only limited services due to lack of water, electricity, or structural damage. The remaining operational health facilities are saturated by the increased demand, but they remain the best option for providing services in the area.
Overall, nearly 500 earthquake casualties in Ecuador need our attention, care and prayer. Outreaches emphasizing medical needs will continue to be a priority; however, the need for safe shelter is also likely to become an issue soon. Please keep Ecuador in your prayers!
Cross International has secured Emergency Health Kits that are now ready for expedited airlift into the areas of Ecuador hardest hit by the earthquake. In the hands of the doctors and nurses already in place and ready to serve, these medical resources will save lives! The Emergency Health Kits are UN-approved, one-ton pallets of essential medicines, medical supplies and low-tech medical devices for the treatment of 10,000 people for 90 days.
Your timely support and prayers are crucial as our staff continues to monitor the unfolding crisis and explore how we can most effectively aid the ongoing relief effort. The sooner we send supplies, the more lives can be saved!
