LIVES TRANSFORMED!

LIVES TRANSFORMED!

A NEW HOME, A NEW HEART

“A new heart I will give you, a new spirit I will put within you.” - Ezekiel 36:26 (RSV)

To give you a sense of how your investment in this new community will bear fruit, we went back and visited San Pedro Village — a housing community Cross International sponsored in 2012. You won’t believe what a change this outreach has had in the lives of the poor!

As we exited the trucks and made our way up the steep hill, we were amazed by the changes we saw. In 2012, when Cross International sponsored the San Pedro housing project, the community had no roads, no trees, no gardens. The new houses we had built were a blessing, but the neighborhood was still quite undeveloped.

http://www.crossinternational.org/uploads/CI_MD_FALL_San_Pedro.jpgOn this day, years later, a beautiful green village greeted us, and we couldn’t help but marvel at the bounty God supplies according to his glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). We had wondered how the village would blossom following the construction of new homes, and now we were witnessing it firsthand. What a revelation! The place was alive with greenery.

Joyful children ran and played. Next door neighbors visited and chatted with each other, laughing and happy. As we approached, two villagers came out to greet us, Buena Ventura and his wife, Alva Rosa Perez. We asked Buena and Alva how things had changed since they received their new house, and they raised their hands high in the air, thanking Jesus for the blessings the Lord had delivered to them.

We learned that the couple had even started a small business making colorful hammocks, which they sold at a market across the border in Honduras. We also learned that Rainbow Network had helped them expand their business with a microloan that they had since paid back in full. As if that wasn’t reason enough for celebration, Buena and Alva had even more incredible blessings to report. They told us that since they received their new home, Buena had overcome alcoholism and was attending church — a joyful turn of events that had the whole family praising God!

This is exactly the kind of life transformation we look for when we start a new project and it is clearly happening in flourishing San Pedro.
