Job Opening: International Development Officer

Report to:  International Development Associate Director
Educational or Certification Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience Requirements:  Minimum 3-5 years of successful professional fundraising experience with proven ability to obtain major gifts or equivalent experience in a related field with field sales or territory management. Understanding of fundraising as a stewardship ministry.

Position Summary:
The International Development Officer is responsible for maintaining and increasing funding from major donors in their assigned region through effective identification, cultivation and solicitation. The focus of this position is to identify and deepen long-term relationships built on a firm understanding of donor interests, passions and values.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Require/Preferred:
  1. A sound working knowledge of fundraising principles.
  2. Proven ability to work independently and effectively with donors and as part of a team.
  3. Proven success in strategic planning and execution of major gifts campaigns.
  4. Proven ability to work independently with a demonstrated ability to take initiative in effectively communicating Cross’ major donor projects and goals.
  5. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and resolve problems quickly.
  6. Sensitive to Christian-based fundraising.
  7. Commitment to professional ethics in working with highly confidential, sensitive information.
  8. Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to respond adeptly to rapidly changing priorities and ability to work well under pressure.
  9. Superior oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal, organizational and motivational skills.
  10. Database management skills and proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  11. Ability to travel internationally and domestically several times a year for meetings, donor visits and gatherings within assigned regions as needed.
  12. Ability to accompany donors on international vision/mission trips to visit Cross projects in developing countries.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Relationship Management and Solicitation (65%)

  1. Demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity for donors – seeking to discover what compels each donor to give substantially by engaging in a genuine relationship and asking the right questions; ability to personally adapt as needed to meet the needs of donors;
  2. Act as primary relationship manager for individual donors and prospects to reach or exceed annual funding goals;
  3. Manage campaign and communication stream to major donors in assigned region through thoughtful review of campaign/annual report mailing lists;
  4. Analyze portfolio and strategize upgrades with an custom cultivation strategy for key donors in the top 150 of portfolio;
  5. Develop strategic one-off funding requests based on short, intermediate an long-term funding goals for key donors;
  6. Play lead role in soliciting and closing major gifts;
  7. Meet or exceed the expected level of donor activity each week and month, i.e., number of calls, asks, personal correspondence, personal visits etc.;
  8. Assist with the planning and implementation of at least one recognition/cultivation event for major donors each year;

Cultivation and Stewardship (25%)

  1. Cultivate donor relationships through frequent personal contact including phone calls, prayer with the donor, personal notes and e-mail; regularly review lapsing donors in an effort to re-engage;
  2. Plan and implement appropriate offerings such as office visit/tour, mission and vision trips, company/church involvement, friend and family campaigns, receptions, gatherings and other events and activities;
  3. Visit key donors annually for face to face cultivation and stewardship activities;
  4. Facilitate access to executive team and other departments;
  5. Actively thank donors for support through review of weekly gift reports; call and welcome major donors within a week of receiving them into region; include personal notes with updates to key donors.

Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation (10%)

  1. Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual activity to achieve major gift revenue goals; provide accurate and timely pipeline reports;
  2. Participate in budget development and goal setting for the major donor department;
  3. Constructively share donor feedback to improve process and marketing strategies;
  4. Uphold set process protocol for organization and department related to donor records and accurate documentation of all interactions with donors;
  5. Other duties as assigned.
