Armed with nothing but his faith in Christ, evangelist Giuseppe Turuel ventures into Guatemala City slums even the police hesitate to enter. He’s been mugged. He’s been threatened at knifepoint. Once, he fought a pipe-wielding man in an alley to protect a young boy. But like the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep, Giuseppe cannot be dissuaded from carrying the Gospel to the darkest corners of the city. After all, that’s where hope is needed most.
With a meager budget bolstered by fervent prayer, Giuseppe’s ministry – Operation Rescue – reaches out to beggars, addicts, garbage dump scavengers, and hungry, neglected children. During the day, he runs a Christian school and activity center, where at-risk children can get a nutritious meal, such as Vitafood, and have a safe place to play. At night, he takes his team to the streets to feed and evangelize the homeless.
“God made me to be his servant,” Giuseppe said. “The pain that I went through, losing my parents and so many other difficult situations in my life – these hardships taught me something. They taught me to see other people’s needs. I’ve also learned to have love and compassion.”
Stories of God triumphing over tragedy are the norm at Operation Rescue, but for every life saved, many more still remain in the shadows, aching for a morsel of bread and hungry for God’s love. Giuseppe is praying that with your help, he can provide the nutritious meals these children so desperately need, and that through this provision, hearts will be opened to the message of the Cross. That’s the true impact of Vitafood! And that’s why we’re asking for your help to ship 2.7 million Vitafood meals to Christian ministries such as Operation Rescue throughout the developing world.
