A little more than two weeks have passed since Hurricane Earl swept across the Caribbean country of Belize, causing massive flooding and destruction of property, leaving many homeless and cut off from basic services. According to UNICEF, more than 100,000 children have been impacted. By God’s grace, no lives were lost, but it will take a long time for this remote, largely rural country to recover. How Cross International is making an impact
Immediately after the storm hit, Cross International reached out to our contacts in Belize City, where we had stored pallets of Vitafood in preparation for hurricane season. Some of these vitamin-enriched soy and rice packets were then distributed by in-country Christian partners to get aid to those in greatest need. Cross International was also able to secure valuable medical packs for immediate distribution to hurricane survivors. Once medical clearance is made, these supplies will be distributed to hospitals and clinics to treat hurricane-related injuries and other medical emergencies. Calvary Chapel of Belize will be the hands and feet of Christ in the midst of this grief, and will coordinate the aid distribution at the local level.
