Job Opening: Prospect Research Analyst

Position Title: Prospect Research Analyst, Florida office
Department: Major Donors
Report to: International Development Data Manager

Educational or Certification Requirements: Bachelor's degree

Experience Requirements: Demonstrate experience in prospect research, development or library research. Strong understanding of the goals and guiding principles of the fundraising profession and familiarity with databases and data management principles required. Position Summary: The Prospect Research Analyst is responsible for identifying, researching, analyzing and rating prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation in conjunction with development team. The focus of this position is to establish and support a comprehensive prospect research program to expand the organization’s major gift efforts in accordance with Cross’ policies and procedures. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required/Preferred:
  • • A sound working knowledge of fundraising principles
  • • Well-developed writing and research skills
  • • The ability to prepare clear, concise reports with attention to accuracy and detail
  • • Experience in using research resources (Wealth Engine, LexisNexis, Foundation Center, NOZA, etc.)
  • • Familiarity with data mining, prospect screening and other prospect or wealth identification programs
  • • Proven ability to work independently and effectively and as part of a team
  • • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and resolve problems quickly
  • • Sensitive to and supportive of Christian-based fundraising
  • • Commitment to professional ethics in working with highly confidential, sensitive information
  • • Superior oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal, organizational and motivational skills
  • • Database management skills and proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Duties and Responsibilities:

Major gift prospect identification (40%)
  • • Support the information needs of the Development Department by conducting proactive and reactive comprehensive biographical, financial and informational research on individual, corporation and foundation prospects
  • • Using electronic screening results, data mining and modeling techniques, develop and implement proactive research strategies to identify and rate new prospects for major giving
  • • Qualify information from prospect screening programs, monitor daily gift reports and other sources to identify new prospects, and respond to internal prospect research requests
  • • Qualify and rate new Major Donors who incept with a one-time gift of $1,000 or more as well as those prospects within database who are potential new Major Donors
  • • Collaborate with colleagues to monitor funding priorities to help identify potential partners and supporters
  • • Track and disseminate news and information about top donors and prospects
Analysis and writing (30%)
  • • Compose confidential, in depth profiles on specific individuals, corporations and foundations regarding financial assets, potential for philanthropic support, areas of interest, and other organization affiliations
  • • Analyze international development officers’ portfolios; ensuring portfolios include ample prospects across all stages of development
  • • Produce and distribute all ongoing and periodic research and management reports
Prospect management (20%)
  • • Support the development of well-prioritized and high quality prospect pools for International Development Officers through periodic portfolio review sessions, and create and maintain comprehensive regional suspect files
  • • Serve as prospect manager by providing oversight and support for the management of assigned prospects for Major Donor staff through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycles
  • • Utilize information technology systems, including the donor development database, to record staff assignments, prospect statuses, research data, completed research projects, and implement the research and prospect management plans and goals
  • • Help maintain policies, procedures and reporting functions for the prospect research and management program
Other Responsibilities (10%)
  • • Based on research findings, provide fundraising strategy recommendations
  • • Giving capacity and ask amount analysis
  • • Coordinate periodic training for the major gift team on research-related topics
  • • Other duties as assigned
