International Programs Grants Writer

Reports to: Director of International Programs

Position Summary:

In the position of Cross International’s Grant Writer, you are a key member of the Programs Department that will work jointly with your colleagues and closely with CI’s local ministry partners with developing, writing and presenting applications.  You will be responsible with updating the Foundations and Grantor interim and final reports.  Additionally, other tasks and assignments may be required as you work collectively within the Programs Department.  Your work will have an immense influence on Cross International’s growth and impact with many of the world’s most vulnerable people over the coming years.

As the Grant Writer, you will represent CI and interface directly with Foundations, Corporations and Grantors.  This position will work closely with the Director of International Programs, the Foundation’s Leader and M & E Specialist.  International travel may be required to meet with CI partners, to gather key resources or partake on donor trips. 

The position requires that you are an experienced, energetic person of Christian faith with excellent writing skills, loves a team environment and has tactful interpersonal skills. You are intent to complete projects on time, and you have a passion to serve the world’s most vulnerable populations with compassion and respect. You also have an understanding of the contemporary influences within North American evangelical churches and the worldwide Church at large.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required/Preferred:

  • Strong, proven experience in creating grant applications for International Development and programs serving abroad;
  • Self-motivated, loves challenges and is able to handle multiple tasks with precision while meeting deadlines;
  • Ability to comprehend and effectively communicate the CI mission to audiences;
  • Knowledge of or interest in international affairs, including Latin America, the Caribbean, and African regions;
  • Database management skills and proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Effective at working remotely, and being an engaged member of a team;
  • Works closely with the Programs Department especially the CI Foundations Lead and M & E Specialist;
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing for Foundation proposals by determining concept, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals;
  • Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for RFAs, and meeting with CI partners;
  • Represent CI to Foundations, Corporations and Grantors;
  • Meets proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and submissions of the grants;
  • Enters and monitors tracking data;
  • Gathers proposal information by identifying sources of information, coordinating submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals;
  • Develops proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation;
  • Writes, revises, and edits drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials;
  • Maintains quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases;
  • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, and coordination;
  • Be willing to work on other tasks for the Programs Department that are assigned by the Director of International Programs.

Education or Certification Requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, international studies, non-profit administration or other related field;
  • Fluency in Spanish, French or another foreign language is an advantage.

General Requirements:

  • A person of Christian faith and active member/attender of a local Christian church and is a contributing part of a local body of believers
  • 10+ years of creating effective, compelling written communications pieces in the non- profit sector;
  • Has a deep desire, a calling, to serve the world’s most vulnerable people;
  • Thrives and is able to perform in a changing organizational environment;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range external and internal audiences;
  • High energy and passion for the CI mission is essential, in order to motivate your audiences;
  • Is a person who has a sense of humor and enjoys co-workers;
  • Can be based in South Florida or remote within the United States;
  • Ability to effectively work remotely from a home office as needed, with travel to CI headquarters on a regular basis (i.e., weekly or quarterly, as current travel policy and office conditions allow in relations to COVID-19 and where you are based);
  • Some international travel to project sites may be required, less than 10% of time. (All travel is dependent on CI current travel policy and in relation to COVID-19)
