Reports to: Director of Development
The Major Gifts Development Officer (MGO) reports to the Director of Development and leads the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of major donors sustaining current giving with disciplined stewardship while upgrading mid-level donors into major donors and opening new pipelines of support. The MGO will confidently ask for and close major gifts, including five- and six-figure commitments, in alignment with donor interests and organizational priorities.
The successful candidate will be capable of building an initial annual revenue base of $450,000–$750,000 within five years. The MGO is a relationship builder and faithful steward who holds a genuine calling to serve the world’s most vulnerable in the name of Jesus and sees fundraising as an act of ministry and an invitation to life-changing partnership. The ideal candidate is proactive and results-oriented, and is comfortable in a hybrid structure, both hierarchical and matrix, where staff members maintain clear reporting lines while, at times, contributing to projects led by other leaders inside the organization.
This role requires a committed Christian faith and active alignment with Cross International’s mission to build stable families, resilient communities, and rooted and growing faith-lives in the name of Jesus Christ. The individual is expected to actively participate in the organization’s spiritual life, including daily staff prayer and devotions. They are also to model CI’s Christ-centered values of:
Candidates must be active members or regular attenders of a local Christian church and demonstrate a genuine calling and passion for serving those in material and spiritual poverty.
While theological background or ministry experience is not required, a personal commitment to Christian faith practices and a willingness to integrate faith into the workplace culture are essential. Respect for diverse expressions of Christian faith within the organization is expected.
